Rice exports increased in first eight months

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam exported 4.53 million tons of rice worth of US$ 2.29 billion in the first eight months of this year, increased by 10.5 per cent in quantity and 26.5 per cent in value over the same period last year, showed the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

In August only, the country’s exports of rice increased sharply by 36.5 per cent in quantity and 33.8 per cent in value over the previous month to 606,500 tons worth of $296.66 million, down by 7.8 per cent in quantity but up by 3.8 per cent in value over the same month of last year.  

The average rice export price reached $489.1 per ton in August and $504.4 per ton in the first eight months of this year, up by 14.6 per cent year – on – year.
China was the country’s leading rice export market in the first eight months of this year with 1.02 million tons worth of $529.88 million, down by 34.9 per cent in quantity and 24.4 per cent in value over the same period last year.

The exports of rice to Indonesia increased by 50.2 times in quantity and 67.1 times in value over the same period last year to 770,812 tons worth of $361.88 million. Indonesia ranked second in the list of the country’s leading rice export markets.
The Philippines ranked third with 610,101 tons worth of $280 million, up by 44.7 per cent in quantity and 67.4 per cent in value year – on – year.

It was followed by Malaysia with 396,446 tons worth of $179.73 million, up by 8.4 per cent in quantity and 26.9 per cent in value year – on – year.
In the first eight months of this year, Vietnam’s exports of rice to Turkey rocketed by 449 per cent in quantity and 527.8 per cent in value to 4,547 tons worth of $2.61 million; to Poland – up by 204.6 per cent in quantity and 248 per cent in value to 1,992 tons worth of $1.16 million; to Iraq – up by 164.6 per cent in quantity and 204.7 per cent in value to 180,000 tons worth of $102.81 million; to France – up by 254.3 per cent in quantity and 182.7 per cent in value to 751 tons worth of $558,224.

However, the exports of rice to Senegal decreased sharply by 99.6 per cent in quantity and 99.3 per cent in value to 93 tons worth of $56,953; to Brunei – down by 95.2 per cent in quantity and 94.7 per cent in value; to Chile – down by 94 per cent in quantity and 88.2 per cent in value; to Bangladesh – down by 91.2 per cent, both in quantity and in value; and to Ukraine – down by 81 per cent in quantity and 73.9 per cent in value.
