2 groups of agricultural exports grew by 3 digits in March of 2024

AsemconnectVietnam - In March of 2024, there were two agricultural export commodity groups with three-digit growth in turnover compared to the previous month, which were cashew nuts and pepper.

The statistics figures from the General Department of Customs showed that, in the first quarter of 2024, Vietnam’s cashew nut exports were estimated to reach 782 million USD, up by 31.8% in volume and by 20.5% in value compared to the same period last year.
Also in the first quarter of 2024, Vietnam exported 56,712 tonnes of pepper of all kinds, reaching a total export turnover of 235.6 million USD, down by 26.1% in volume and 0.1% in turnover compared to the same period last year.
Vietnam's cashew exports in March and the first quarter of 2024
The Import-Export Department (under the Ministry of Industry and Trade) cited statistics from the General Department of Customs as saying that in March of 2024, Vietnam's cashew exports reached 55,000 tonnes, worth of 289 million USD, an increase of 106.8% in volume and an increase of 103.4% in value compared to February of 2024. The figure increased by 10.7% in volume, but decreased by 2.2% in value compared to March of 2023.
In the first quarter of 2024, Vietnam's cashew exports reached about 147,000 tonnes, worth of 782 million USD, up by 31.8% in volume and 20.5% in value compared to the same period of 2023.
According to estimates, Vietnam's average cashew export price reached 5,248 USD/tonne in March of 2024, down by 1.7% compared to February of 2024 and down by 11.6% compared to March of 2023.
In the first quarter of 2024, Vietnam's average cashew export price was estimated to reach 5,329 USD/tonne, down by 8.6% compared to the same period of 2023.
Regarding type structure, in the first 2 months of 2024, Vietnam increased exports of most cashew types compared to the same period last year, except for WS/WB, SP, DW cashews.
Vietnam’s pepper exports in the first quarter of 2024
The preliminary statistics figures of the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association showed that in March of 2024, Vietnam exported 25,579 tonnes of pepper of all kinds, of which the exports of black pepper reached 22,282 tonnes, while the exports of white pepper reached 3,297 tonnes.
Pepper export turnover reached 110.7 million USD, of which the exports of black pepper reached 92.0 million USD, and the exports of white pepper reached 18.7 million USD. In comparison to February, the export volume increased by 88.1%, while the export turnover increased by 102.2%.
The average export price of black pepper in March reached 4,136 USD/tonne, white pepper reached 5,710 USD/tonne, an increase of 310 USD for black pepper and 55 USD for white pepper.
Totally by the end of the first quarter of 2024, Vietnam has exported 56,712 tonnes of pepper of all kinds, of which the exports of black pepper reached 49,743 tonnes, and the exports of white pepper reached 6,969 tonnes. The country’s total pepper export turnover reached 235.6 million USD, of which the export turnover of black pepper reached 196.9 million USD, and the export turnover of white pepper reached 38.7 million USD. In comparison to the same period of 2023, the export volume decreased by 26.1% and the turnover decreased by 0.1%.
The average export price of black pepper reached 3,966 USD/tonne, while the average export price of white pepper reached 5,552 USD/tonne, an increase of 562 USD for black pepper and 593 USD for white pepper respectively compared to the same period of 2023.
Vietnam's main pepper export markets in the first quarter of 2024
Asia was the largest export region, accounting for 37.7% reaching 21,365 tonnes. However in comparison to the same period last year, it decreased by 54.3%. India was the largest export market in Asia with 3,793 tonnes, an increase of 19.6% and accounting for 6.7%.
The exports to China decreased the most by 95.8%, reaching only 1,083 tonnes compared to 25,919 tonnes in the same period last year. Meanwhile, the exports to the UAE also decreased by 38.6%; to Iran decreased by 29.3%, and the exports to South Korea increased sharply by 179.9% to 2,164 tonnes.
The Americam region ranked second, accounting for 29.7%, of which the United States was the largest export market of Vietnamese pepper, accounting for 26.8%, reaching 15,185 tonnes, an increase of 27.9% over the same period last year.
The exports to Europe accounted for 26.3%, an increase of 24.7% over the same period of 2023, of which the largest export to Germany increased by 113.8% to 3,701 tonnes; to the Netherlands increased by 76.9% to 2,598 tonnes; the exports to Russia increased by (25.1%); to France (8.0%); to Spain (32.3%), to Italy (203.6%) but the exports to the UK decreased (-5.6%); to Poland (-21.1%); and to Ireland (-75.4%).
The exports to Africa decreased by 23.1%, of which to Egypt decreased by 9.7% to 1,389 tonnes and to Senegal decreased by 38.0% to 588 tonnes.
