In which, seafood export turnover reached over 7.07 billion USD and seafood imports reached 1.62 billion USD.
Vietnam's seafood exports in the first 10 months of 2021
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, in October of 2021 Vietnam's seafood exports continued to increase by 42.3% compared to September of 2021 but still decreased by 2.9% compared to the same period last year, reaching 888.63 million USD. In the 10 months of 2021, the country’s seafood export turnover increased by 1.9% over the same period of 2020, reaching over 7.07 billion USD.
The US, Japan and the EU were the top export markets for Vietnamese seafood in the first 10 months of 2021
The US has always been the leading market for Vietnam's seafood consumption, accounting for 23.6% of the country's total seafood export turnover, reaching over 1.67 billion USD in the first 10 months of 2021, an increase of 24% compared to the same period last year. In October of 2021 alone, the turnover increased sharply by 38.6% compared to September of 2021 and increased by 26.7% compared to October of 2020, reaching 218.97 million USD.
The country’s seafood exports to Japan accounted for 15.2%, ranked second in turnover, reaching over 1.07 billion USD, down by 8.2% over the same period last year. In October of 2021 alone, the turnover increased sharply by 60.6% compared to September of 2021 but decreased by 13% compared to October of 2020, reaching 119.81 million USD.
The EU market ranked third with 812.95 million USD, accounting for 11.5%, up by 5.5% over the same period last year. Our seafood exports to China accounted for 10.5%, reaching 742.92 million USD, down by 25% over the same period last year.
In general, in the first 10 months of this year, the seafood exports to most markets increased in turnover compared to the same period of 2020.
Vietnam's seafood imports in the first 10 months of 2021
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s seafood import value in 10 months of 2021 reached nearly USD 1.62 billion, up by 11.5% compared to 10 months of 2020.
Particularly in October of 2021, the import value of this group of products reached 137.73 million USD, up by 2.4% compared to September of 2021 but down by 3.8% compared to October of 2020.
Main seafood import markets of Vietnam in the first 10 months of 2021
India, Norway, Southeast Asia, China and Japan were the main markets supplying seafood to Vietnam; in which the imports from India lead in turnover, reaching 265.2 million USD, accounting for 16.4% of the total import turnover of this commodity group of the whole country, up by 27.3% compared to 10 months of 2020. The imports of seafood from this market alone reached 18.3 million USD in October 2021, down by 2.6% compared to September of 2021 and down by 6.5% compared to October of 2020.
In second place was the Norwegian market, the imports from this market in October of 2021 also decreased by 19% compared to September of 2021 but increased by 8.7% compared to October of 2020, reaching 12.6 million USD. The figure brought the country’s total seafood import value in the first 10 months to 184.86 million USD, accounting for 11.4% of the total, up by 15.3% over the same period of 2020.
The next was the Southeast Asian market with 175.24 million USD in the first 10 months of 2021, accounting for 10.8%, up by 5.8%; China with 142.55 million USD, accounting for 8.8% of the total, up by 26%; Japan with 129.54 million USD, accounting for 8%, down by 2.5%.
In general, in the first 10 months of 2021, Vietnam’s seafood imports from the major markets increased over the same period last year.
