ACV asks for support to accelerate Long Thanh airport project

 Thursday, November 22,2018

AsemconnectVietnam - Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) has called for support from the Government and agencies to ensure the progress of the Long Thanh International Airport project in Dong Nai Province, Thanh Nien newspaper reported.

According to ACV, the feasibility study for the first phase of the project is being conducted as planned, and progress on the job is expected to be reported for the second time late this month. The environmental impact assessment of the project is also being carried out as scheduled.

As for the site clearance, compensation and resettlement project, part of the main airport project, the Prime Minister, on November 6, issued a decision approving the feasibility report for the sub-project. The Dong Nai government has mobilized the human resources from the departments and agencies to carry out the sub-project.
Also, ACV has established a working group for the site clearance work and has closely cooperated with Dong Nai Province to ensure the smooth handover of the construction site.
However, in order to make sure that the project will begin in June 2020 and be put into operation in 2025, ACV needs the support from relevant ministries, agencies and localities, especially from the Ministry of Transport.
ACV proposed that the Government hold a meeting to listen to the project consultant’s report and to hire a consultant for the evaluation of the project, as stipulated in Government’s Decree 131/2015 providing guidance on projects of national significance.
According to a report delivered by Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The to the on-going sitting of the National Assembly, the resettlement and site clearance compensation for the Long Thanh international airport project has fallen behind schedule, as Dong Nai Province lacks experience for the job.
The resettlement and site clearance compensation sub-project, running from 2017 to 2021, requires a total investment of nearly VND22.9 trillion (US$978.7 million).
The site clearance project must acquire some 5,000 hectares of land to provide room for the airport, and more than 364 extra hectares to build two resettlement sites.
As a result, some 4,800 local households and 26 organizations are to be relocated.
