The app was launched in HCM City in August this year, and in less than two month, it has been downloaded by more than 1.5 million users. The company has reportedly taken a 35 per cent market share in the economic hub, and has around 25,000 drivers on its platform.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, which was witnessed by Indonesian President Joki Widodo and Vietnamese Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The, together with other high-ranking officials from both countries, Go-Viet’s CEO Nguyen Vu Duc said that the app was developed especially for the Vietnamese market, and its platform was powered by the Indonesian Go-Jek’s world class technology, expertise and investment.

“Go-Viet is led by local founding management team who has in-depth expertise on the needs of the Vietnamese market and consumers,” Duc said, adding that the app aimed to improve the everyday lives of the people in Viet Nam through technology.

Duc said Go-Viet would be a stable income source for drivers by offering different products and services, not only transport and logistics.

Besides Go-Bike (motorcycle taxi service) and Go-Send (delivery service), Go-Viet is planning to launch Go-Car (car service), Go-Food (food delivery service) and Go-Pay (e-money and mobile payments) in the coming time.

Go-Viet’s Indonesian partner Go-Jek was launched as an instant courier and motorcycle ride-hailing service in 2010. Go-Jek now has 17 services ranging from transport and food delivery to massage and cleaning, as well as e-money and a loyalty programme.

Go-Jek co-founder and CEO Nadiem Makarim said his company was proud to be sharing Indonesia’s unique technology with Go-Viet.

According to Nadiem, after Viet Nam, Go-Jek is planning to expand to Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines as part of a US$500 million investment plan.
