PM chairs teleconference on environmental protection
PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc on August 24 chaired a national teleconference on environmental protection.
Speaking at the meeting, the PM referred to environmental pollution and serious environmental incidents which have affected production and local people’s lives and caused social instability.
The PM required clarifying some issues, including evaluation of environmental pollution and shortcomings in State management leading to environmental pollution.
He demanded delegates discuss difficulties and challenges on environmental protection such as expenditures, science and technology.
Steering Board set up to address issues related to environmental incidents
The PM has signed a Decision on the establishment of the Steering Board on measures to stabilize lives, production and business for local people in four localities seriously affected by the Formosa-caused environmental incident.
The members of the board actively propose issues related to the establishment and realization of measures to stabilize lives as well as inspect and supervise the implementation of these measures.
More localities pledge to create favorable business climate
Another 32 cities and provinces nationwide have committed to creating optimal conditions for businesses, raising the total number of localities to more than 40.
The commitments were reached by representatives from the municipal and provincial People’s Committees and leaders of the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in Ho Chi Minh City on August 24, in accordance with the Government’s Resolution No. 35 on supporting and developing enterprises by 2020.
Deputy PM Vuong Dinh Hue who is also head of the Steering Committee for Business Innovation and Development, urged the municipal and provincial People’s Committees to work harder to lure more foreign direct investments in the context of international integration, and untangle “bottleneck” in markets, services, capital, science-technology and real estate.
CPI in August slightly increases
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in August rose 0.1% against the previous month and witnessed a year-on-year increase of 2.57%, the lowest figure recoded over the recent 10 years, according to the General Statistics Office on August 24.
In comparison with December last year, the CPI increased 2.58%. The average CPI growth in eight months picked up 1.91% against the same period last year.
Six out of 11 commodities and services witnessed increases in prices such as medicine and health service up 6.18%, education up 0.47%, garment, hats and footwear up 0.14%, other services up 0.11%, beverage and tobacco up 0.05% and household equipment up 0.05%.
Foreign arrivals to VN see double-digit growth
The number of foreign visitors to Viet Nam in August witnessed a double-digit growth compared to the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office.
As many as 899,738 foreigners travelled to Viet Nam in August, up 6.3% compared to the previous month and a year-on-year increase of 34.4%.
The total number of foreigners to Viet Nam over the recent eight months attained 6,452,373, a year-on-year increase of 25.4%.
Up to 5,438,933 ones travelled by air, up 28.5%.
Hotel occupancy rate in HN, HCM City set records
Ha Noi's hotel occupancy rate reached 75% in June, the highest figure in five years, according to the Commercial Real Estate Services (CBRE).
The capital's hospitality and tourism market welcomed 21% more tourists in the first six months of 2016, according to a hospitality market review in the second quarter of 2016 issued by CBRE Viet Nam.
As of June 30, the reports shows that hotel occupancy rates rose 65% in Ho Chi Minh City and 75% in Ha Noi compared to last year.
VN ships Hung Yen longan to U.S.
Two tons of Hung Yen longan have just been transported to Ho Chi Minh City to undergo irradiation before being shipped to the U.S.
The fruits will be subject to a system that includes treatment and inspection requirements and restrictions on distribution.
