Vietnamese tuna exports to Chile nearly doubled

 Tuesday, April 30,2024

AsemconnectVietnam - Chile, one of the countries participating in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), has tended to increase tuna imports from Vietnam in the past 3 years.

According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, this South American country imported nearly 3 million USD of tuna products from Vietnam in the first 2 months of 2024, an increase of 58% over the same period in 2023.

In 2023, Vietnam was the 4th largest tuna supplier to Chile after Thailand, Ecuador, and China, with a market share of more than 9%. While Vietnam and Thailand's tuna exports to markets have grown continuously over the past 3 years, Ecuador and China's exports have tended to decrease.

This year, Chile increased imports of canned and frozen tuna meat/loin from Vietnam. In particular, Vietnam's canned tuna exports to this market in the first 2 months of this year increased three times.

There are currently 10 tune exporters to this South American country. Trinity Vietnam, Havuco, and Nha Trang Bay were top 3 tuna exporters to this market, accounting for 76% of total export turnover in 2023.

The import tax advantage of CPTPP agreement continue to be a strength for businesses to expand their sales in this market. Therefore, Vietnam's tuna exports to Chile will continue to grow well in the coming months.
