Vietnam's seafood exports and imports in first 2 months of 2024

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the preliminary statistics figures from the General Department of Customs, in the first 2 months of 2024, Vietnam’s seafood exports reached nearly 1.21 billion USD, an increase of 13.5% compared to the first 2 months of 2023.

Meanwhile, the import turnover of all kinds of seafood to Vietnam in the first 2 months of 2024 reached over 406.44 million USD, down by 2.7% compared to the first 2 months of 2023.

According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s exports of seafood products in February of 2024 decreased by 38.7% compared to January of 2024 and decreased by 24.7% compared to February of 2023, reaching nearly 4.59 million USD. Overall, in the first 2 months of 2024, exports of this product group reached nearly 1.21 billion USD, an increase of 13.5% compared to the first 2 months of 2023.

Japan was leading the list of Vietnam’s main seafood export markets, accounting for 16.3% of the country's total export turnover of this product group, reaching over 196.9 million USD, an increase of 5.6% compared to the first 2 months of 2023. The figures of February of 2024 alone reached 66.63 million USD, down by 48.9% compared to January of 2024 and down by 30.2% compared to February of 2023.
The US market ranked second, accounting for 15.6%, reaching nearly 188.59 million USD, up by 22% over the same period last year. In February of 2024 alone, the exports to this market reached 77.79 million USD, down by 29.9% compared to January of 2024 and down by 10.6% compared to February of 2023.
The next was the Chinese market. In February of 2024, the country’s exports of seafood to China decreased by 19.4% compared to January of 2024 and decreased by 20.3% compared to February of 2023, reaching 81.3 million USD. In the first 2 months of 2024, the exports to this market increased sharply by 43.7% compared to the first 2 months of 2023, reaching over 181.73 million USD, accounting for 15% of the total export turnover of this product group of the whole country.
Seafood exports to the FTA RCEP market in the first 2 months of 2024 increased by 10% compared to the first 2 months of 2023, reaching over 617.1 million USD, accounting for 51% of the total turnover; the exports to the FTA CPTTP market increased by 9.7%, reaching nearly 325.02 million USD, accounting for 26.9%. The exports to the EU market accounted for 9.4% of total turnover, reaching over 113.59 million USD, down by 3.3% while the exports to the Southeast Asian market accounted for 7.2% of total turnover, reaching nearly 86.63 million USD, down by 15.9%.

According to the preliminary statistics figures from the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s import turnover of all kinds of seafood in the first 2 months of 2024 reached over 406.44 million USD, down by 2.7% compared to the first 2 months of 2023.
In February of 2024 alone, the import turnover of this product group reached nearly 160.63 million USD, a sharp decrease of 34.7% compared to January of 2024 and a decrease of 30.5% compared to February of 2023.

In the first 2 months of 2024, India, Norway, Indonesia, China and Japan were the main markets supplying seafood to Vietnam. Of which the imports from Indonesia led in turnover, reaching 58.11 million USD, accounting for 14.3% of the country's total import turnover of this product group, an increase of 35% compared to the first 2 months of 2023, In February of 2024 alone, the imports from this market reached 16.3 million USD, a sharp decrease of 61% compared to January of 2024 and a decrease of 17% compared to February of 2023.
Norway ranked second, the imports from this market in February 2024 increased by 3% compared to January of 2024 but decreased by 1.6% compared to February of 2023, reaching 22.95 million USD, increasing the total import turnover in the first 2 months of 2024 increased to 45.23 million USD, accounting for over 11.1%, an increase of 15.2% compared to the first 2 months of 2023.
The next was the Indian market with 43.26 million USD in the first 2 months of 2024, accounting for 10.6%, down by 39.4%; China reached 40.64 million USD, accounting for 10%, up by 26.9%; Japan reached 24.09 million USD, accounting for 5.9%, down by 0.07%.
The imports from FTA RCEP markets reached 156.34 million USD, up by 21.8% over the same period of 2023. The imports from CPTTP markets reached 41.52 million USD, down by 20% and the imports from Southeast Asian markets reached 73.04 million USD, an increase of 29%.
