 Tuesday, September 5,2023

AsemconnectVietnam - On Tuesday, domestic pepper prices in Vietnam's Central Highlands rose by 500 VND to VND69,500 to VND73,000 per kg compared to Yesterday, according to Kinhtedothi.vn.

In Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, the maximum price for pepper rose to VND73,000 per kg, while in Gia Lai province, the lowest price to VND69,500 per kg. Farmers in Binh Phuoc sold pepper for VND72,000 per kilogram, in Dong Nai province for VND70,500 per kilogram, and in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces for VND71,000 per kilogram.
At the end of the first session of the week, the International Pepper Community (IPC) listed the price of Lampung black pepper (Indonesia) at $4,347/tonne, up 0.02%; Brazilian black pepper price ASTA 570 is at 3,350 USD/tonne; Kuching (Malaysia) ASTA black pepper price remained at 4,900 USD/tonne. Vietnam black pepper price is trading at 3,500 USD/tonne with 500 g/l type, 550 g/l type at 3,600 USD/tonne; White pepper price is at 5,100 USD/tonne.
The increase in pepper prices is due to positive signals from US employment data and the Chinese economy, helping the macroeconomic situation become brighter. The USD is depreciating against most other currencies, thanks to China's economic support measures.
Supply is being supported by harvests in Indonesia and Brazil. However, from now until the end of the year, there is forecast to be a shortage due to Vietnam's low inventory. Domestic supply scenarios from now until the beginning of next year show that it will not be as abundant as every year.
Data from the General Statistics Office shows that Vietnam's pepper exports in August 2023 reached 16 thousand tonnes, up 4.9% compared to July 2023, but down 13.4% over the same period last year. Accumulated in the first 8 months of 2023, Vietnam's pepper export volume reached 183,900 tonnes, an increase of 14.5% over the same period in 2022.
Imports in the first 8 months of the year were about 20 thousand tonnes. Thus, in September 2023, all imported pepper will be exported and consumed domestically along with this year's harvest output.
Through assessment and review of data compared to previous forecasts, the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association said that Vietnam's pepper output in 2023 is estimated to reach about 190 thousand tonnes, an increase of 3.8% compared to 2022.
Following are domestic pepper prices on September 5, 2023, in the main pepper growing and consumption regions:
