Vietnam’s imports of CBU cars in first quarter of 2023

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the General Department of Customs, the volume and turnover of imported CBU cars in the first quarter of 2023 increased sharply compared to the same period last year.

The preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs showed that, in March of this year, the whole country imported 15,228 CBU cars of all kinds, with a turnover of 355.4 million USD, up by 23.2% in volume, up by 36.8 % of turnover compared to the previous month.
Thailand and Indonesia were the two largest importers of CBU cars.
For the first quarter of 2023, the whole country imported 42,002 CBU cars of all kinds, with a total turnover of 925.5 million USD, up by 76.9% in volume and by 64.8% in turnover over the same period last year.
Regarding the markets, Thailand has firmly returned to the number one position with 21,051 vehicles, the turnover of 419 million USD; Indonesia ranked second with 15,124 vehicles, the turnover of 209.8 million USD; China ranked third with 2,385 vehicles, and the turnover of 93 million USD.
With 38,560 vehicles, the three main markets alone accounted for 91.8% of the country's total imported vehicles during the period.
Previously, in 2022, Vietnam imported 173,467 automobiles of all kinds, with a total turnover of 3.84 billion USD, up by 8.5% in volume and 5.1% in turnover compared to 2021. The figure was the largest number of imported cars ever, far exceeding the results of the previous record year 2021 with nearly 160,000 vehicles.
Indonesia and Thailand were the two largest import markets. In particular, Indonesia surpassed Thailand in the number of imported cars, but the "golden pagoda land" still ranked No. 1 in terms of turnover.
Specifically, last year, Vietnam imported 72,671 vehicles from Indonesia, with a turnover of more than 1.05 billion USD; while the imports from Thailand reached 72,032 vehicles, with the turnover of 1.43 billion USD. The third place was China with 17,340 vehicles, and the turnover of 714.5 million USD.
With 162,043 vehicles, the three markets mentioned above alone accounted for 93.4% of the country's imported cars in 2022, even exceeding the total number of imported cars in 2021.
